I will not tolerate racism in my classes. Whether we are in person or in an online event, I will 100% call anyone out if anyone says anything overtly racist in my classroom. I will call you out if your comments aren't overt either. For example, if a student quietly or loudly tells me they are upset by comments made by another I will investigate and follow up right then and there. I realize that I am here to teach quilting, but as the person at the front of the room I am responsible for a good experience for all.

I will research each group/store that asks me to teach before responding in the positive. It's not that I will say no unless you have a minimum percentage of not-white members, that isn't something I can control. But I will look at guild social media, websites, and vocal members to see what they are saying. If I discover racist commentary then I will say no to the gig.

I will investigate the other teachers at events I am asked to participate in. This is about only participating in events where people of colour are also asked to participate. Who wants to see a slate of white lady teachers only? Not I.

I am researching all the ways I have potentially participated in racist migroaggressions. While I want to say that I treat all my students the same and that I have no racist thoughts, I am the product of a society built on systemic racism. So have I said or done anything that hurt someone or perpetuated racist or wrong beliefs? Did I try to be the tone police? Did I give everyone a good experience no matter what? So I have to investigate my own actions - I can only move forward to antiracist behaviour with an examination of what I've done up to this point.
